Concentrations: Anthropology and Philosophy

Michael Degani graduated from the Wilkes Honors College in 2005 with a double-concentration in anthropology and philosophy and received Outstanding Thesis and Outstanding Scholar of the Year Awards. He earned his Doctorate in anthropology from Yale University in 2015, graduating with distinction. After graduating from Yale, Dr. Degani joined the Department of Anthropology at Johns Hopkins University, where he writes and teaches on the politics of energy infrastructure in Africa, particularly in cities.
He is currently writing a book on the national power grid of Tanzania, where he has been conducting long-term fieldwork since 2009. His work has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Social Science Research Council, and the Wenner-Gren Foundation. He was a 2018 Fellow of the American Council of Learned Societies. Degani was also the 2018 recipient of the FAU Alumni Association’s Distinguished Alumni Award.
